PSOBLTA v Westside LTC

Draw 2-2

PSOBLTA team: Russell Dykes, Harry Gardner, Brad Keenes and Ashley Tatum

Whilst the D’Abernon Cup final was being played at the All England Club, another Pubs contingent were competing in a tightly contested but probably less intense tussle a short walk away across the Common at Westside. A favoured fixture for several decades, in recent years this had been guided by the overseeing gaze of our own Austin Coventry to whom we wish a happy emigration to South West France where we understand he is winning over the locals as much by his kiltish attire as by his cheerful bonhomie…

In the event, in balmy conditions and under blue skies a quartet fairly representative of age, experience and youth took on a steady home team and secured the narrowest of victories by courtesy of count back on sets won. The Pubs team were represented by our President, Ashley Tatum (on a rare outing on clay), the ever reliable Russell Dykes and a new member, Harry Gardner playing his inaugural (and we trust not his last) fixture for the Association.

Our thanks go to Clive Ashworth for organising the home team and to Westside for their wonderful hospitality and generosity in giving us court time on a busy weekend where they were playing many rescheduled Surrey League matches .
