With a strong rain shower in the morning and more storm clouds gathering over SW19, an early decision was made to move from the green grass of the All England Club to the indoor hard courts – thank goodness we did.
In a fabulous D’Abernon Cup Final, Old Reptonian’s eventually overcame a strong Old Pauline’s team including the talismanic return of their stalwart Jeff Hunter to D’Abernon Cup duty.
At first glance a 7-2 score line may look convincing and perhaps in the end it was, but four of the matches were decided by match tie breaks with the Old Reptonian’s winning three of the four.
Reaching the D’Abernon Cup Final is a fabulous achievement for both teams and special mention was given to each team member for their commitment in playing so many matches over the season, and to both captains (Jamie Muirhead – Old Reptonians & Dan Tristao – Old Pauline’s) who have superbly lead and invigorated their Old Boys to play in the event.
We would like to thank all the Old Boy Schools’ team who entered in 2016 and thus made this year one of the most competitive D’Abernon Cup’s in history, and on behalf of the PSOBLTA Committee we wish to offer our sincere gratitude to the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club for their kind hospitality and support of the PSOBLTA and our flagship event – The D’Abernon Cup.
